What matters most to your cut?
There is no single ideal approach for every rough gemstone. You can tell us your preference in the request form, and we will discuss what is achievable.
Weight Priority
Favor retaining carat weight where the rough's characteristics and sound cutting proportions permit.
Beauty Priority
Place greater emphasis on attractive proportions, light return and visible inclusions, even if more material must be removed.
Balanced Approach
Seek a practical balance between finished appearance and retained weight, guided by the individual stone.

A practical approach to cutting natural gemstones.
A successful project begins with understanding the material—not simply choosing a shape. We aim to make cutting decisions clear and suited to each gemstone.
Stone-specific evaluation
Consider color, transparency, inclusions, rough shape and possible cutting orientation.
Clear expectations on yield
Discuss potential trade-offs between retained weight, proportions and appearance before work is agreed.
Custom design discussions
Review pear, oval, cushion, step, brilliant and mixed faceting preferences when suitable for the stone.
Professional buyer support
Assistance for gem dealers, jewelers, collectors and jewelry manufacturers, including related services where available.
One rough. A considered transformation.
In a documented Rakwana blue sapphire project, 3.41 ct of rough material was evaluated, selectively trimmed, pre-formed and faceted into a finished 1.55 ct oval sapphire. Each gemstone produces a different result.
Questions about gemstone cutting?
A few practical details before you submit your gemstone cutting request.
Can you guarantee the final carat weight or clarity?
No. The final result depends on rough shape, inclusions, orientation, durability considerations and the selected cutting design. We can discuss possible outcomes, but exact weight, clarity and appearance cannot be guaranteed in advance.
Which gemstones can I request for cutting?
You can inquire about sapphires, spinels, garnets, chrysoberyls, zircons, tourmalines and other natural colored gemstones. Suitability depends on the material and the type of work needed.
Can you recut or repolish an existing gemstone?
Yes, you can request an assessment. Whether a stone can be recut or polished depends on its existing shape, size, surface condition, fractures and expected weight loss.
Can I select a particular shape or faceting pattern?
Yes. You can specify preferences such as oval, cushion, pear, step cut, brilliant cut or mixed cut. We will discuss which options are feasible for the individual stone.
Do I need to send the gemstone before receiving an estimate?
Photographs, measurements and rough weight can support an initial discussion. More reliable assessment of risks, cutting potential and final costs may require examination of the actual stone.
Can international customers request cutting services?
International customers may submit inquiries. Sending gemstones to Sri Lanka and returning them is subject to the relevant customs, shipping, export and insurance requirements; arrangements must be confirmed before dispatch.
Can you help with gemstone certification after cutting?
Certification arrangements can be discussed where available. Laboratory services, costs and processing times are separate considerations and depend on the gemstone and requested report.
